New Business Helps County Glow

New businesses make a destination exciting, regardless of where you are. They give communities something new to experience, or something distantly familiar to reacquaint yourself with.

Simply Golf, an indoor golf facility with space to learn, practice, and play the game, is offering Pictou County the ultimate golfing experience, in any weather, and season.

Whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned veteran, Simply Golf has something for you. Their state-of-the-art golf simulators have life-like graphics with precise ball tracking and a variety of world-class courses for you to choose from, expanding your golf game to courses across the world. Their team of passionate golf experts, led by operator and owner Brad deSchiffert, are providing personalized coaching for everyone from juniors to adults.

“Golf is a very difficult game,” said deSchiffert. “This is a good place to start. I hope I can give people a comfortable environment to do so.”

“The passion first began in ’97 when Tiger won the Masters,” he said. “I started taking it a bit more serious after that.”

After working in his trade as an electrician for some years, he decided to pursue a career change, taking the professional golf management course at Humber College. After completing the program, he worked at different courses around the country until the opportunity to move abroad came up.

Without hesitation, deSchiffert flew to the Cayman Islands on his 30th birthday in pursuit of his passion and new opportunity within the golf world. He was working at a course when he was asked to participate in coaching a junior golfer’s program. “It turned into 120+ kids a week,” he said.

He would then go on to coach the Cayman National Junior Golf team for 3 years, eventually coaching them to a Caribbean championship, with three of the six athletes securing full scholarships to Division 1 schools.

After spending the last 10 years in the Cayman Islands, deSchiffert and his family made the decision to move back to Canada, ending up here in Pictou County where they have family.

DeSchiffert noticed an increasing demand for a facility like Simply Golf; a place where anyone could go to improve, learn, or maintain their skills. After last summer’s unprecedented rainfall, he was convinced it was time to open his facility.

Open for over two months now, Simply Golf has been greatly utilized and enjoyed. “It’s been fantastic” said deSchiffert. “It’s been really well received by the community.”

“It’s really important for me to build that base,” he said. “I really encourage beginners.”

Simply Golf is open to anyone of any skill level. If you’re a junior (age 6-15) you’re especially lucky as deSchiffert’s excels at teaching the young learners. “There is no more enjoyment than watching a kid achieve what they’ve been working towards,” he said.

Simply Golf plans to offer 4 terms of junior classes a year, running through each season with the winter term wrapping up April 13.

Showing the community just how universal golf can be is a major goal of deSchifferts. “Anybody can play golf,” he said. “I want more people to play the game … it’s a game for life.”

His hope is to expand the junior program at Simply Golf, allowing young learners to continue to work on their skills throughout every season. “We’re taking all of the unpredictable elements out of the game,” he said. “It brings learning to another level.”

Just like his own children, deSchiffert vowed to never force the game on anyone, but he’s ready to teach anyone interested, showing just how great learning the difficult game feels.

Whether you’re booking the golf simulators for some fun with friends or enlisting deSchifferts guidance for improving your golf swing, Simply Golf has something for everyone. With a plethora of glowing ideas, the future of Simply Golf looks bright.
